  • 800g ground beef
  • 800g canned chopped tomatoes
  • 1 large onion
  • knob of ginger
  • garlic ~same volume as ginger
  • 4 chili peppers
  • 400g frozen green peas
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp black peppercorns / 1tsp ground black pepper
  • 4 cloves
  • half a cinnamon stick
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp ground chili
  • 2 tsp turmeric
  • juice from half a lemon

how to

  1. Ground the cumin, mustard seeds and black peppercorns.
  2. Dice onions and chili peppers. Chop ginger and press garlic.
  3. Add the aromatics to a pan with a drizzle of oil. Saute until they get some color.
  4. Add the grounded spices to a pan and toast for 30 seconds.
  5. Add in the grounded tomatoes, along with the remaining spices (cloves, bay leaves, ground chili, turmeric). Let boil for 5 minutes.
  6. Add the ground beef. Let simmer until cooked.
  7. Add in the frozen peas and juice from half a lemon.
